Secondments
Your two years on the programme are broken down into four distinct secondments, each based around a live project. That means real deadlines and real customer expectations to meet.
Each secondment will be designed with your particular learning requirements in mind. Supporting you will be a personal Secondment Coordinator who will ensure the work you do matches the standards your individual professional qualifying body demands. Essentially, we’ll be offering you the best mix of commercial, technical and management experience in some incredibly diverse work areas.
Importantly, before and after each secondment, you’ll return to the nucleargraduates training centre for preparation and debriefing.
Here’s an overview of how your secondments will be structured:
Phase 1. The NDA. You’ll spend your first six months settling in and working alongside staff at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. Expect to work across a variety of areas including engineering, finance, project management and waste management.
Phase 2. Sites and Site Management. This scheme involves companies who are licensed to manage nuclear industry sites across the UK. We call them Site Licence Companies. You’ll spend 6 months working on a variety of day-to-day projects. Your role: to deliver against some demanding commercial and decommissioning targets.
Phase 3. Supply Chain, Regulators or Government. Your final six months in the UK offers you the chance to see the industry from the outside in: with either a private company or an industry regulator. The nuclear supply chain is a £multi-billion industry that encompasses small bespoke consultancies through to giant multinational contractors. Right now, there are huge opportunities in this industry. You’ll experience the different cultures and working practices that have made the industry as strong as it is - and you’ll learn how it can become even stronger and more efficient.
Phase 4. Going global. This three month secondment gives you an amazing opportunity to experience the vast network of business that goes on around the world in the nuclear sector. Whether you’re visiting decommissioning sites in the United States or working in the engineering design centres of India, you’ll discover just how big, complex, challenging and varied this industry is.
